I have been a little bit busy the last few weeks. There are so many things that have happened which got my attention. A lot of it has to do with politics, education reform, and celebrities! So lets get into it!
#3 Celebrities: Let's not spend too much time on this, because the TV has the celeb issues completely covered. I just think its so sad that these "role models" are behaving so poorly. I know that they are human too, but they are held in a higher light because of the influence they have on the youth today. I would really like to see more movement in Hollywood to help its "people" avoid drug/alcohol abuse.
#2 Education Reform: I am really torn on this new movement towards making tenure less inclusive. Recently the state of Colorado decided to add student performance as a factor in gaining tenure. The newly changed laws will allow administration to dismiss teachers who have students that perform poorly. This seems like a good idea on the surface, but many people involved on the teaching side of education realize that in sometimes students come to you well below where they should be performing. With the new law, you could be paying for the errors of poor teachers before you. Additionally, (and sadly) some students really do not care for school, and don't have motivation to excel in the classroom.
The big question is will administration use this new law to fire qualified teachers who have higher salaries, in favor of cheaper first year teachers. One would hope not, but with districts posting multi-million dollar deficits clearing $60,000 and hiring $40,000 would be a way to stay a float. If that occurs, it will be the students who lose.
#1 Politics: The world of politics is crazy these days. I consider myself a democrat. However, I am not so stubborn in my ways that I would support ANYTHING. With that said, I really can't find many things that I personally disagree with. I like "Obamacare" as some republicans have dubbed it; I haven't been negatively impacted thus far by any of the things that the current administration has done. I just can't believe that people are actually comparing the Gulf Coast Oil Spill (OS) to Hurricane Katrina (HK). With HK there is a specific set of people set aside to handle this issue (FEMA) who undoubtedly failed at their jobs (by no means were they alone...) With the OS we have to expect that the company drilling will be responsible enough to maintain their equipment.
Sometimes I just don't understand how some people care more about animals than they do about other PEOPLE! Also, Obama didn't respond fast enough?! What exactly should he have done? I can't believe people are actually defending BP and their role int he entire situation. If we don't expect companies to pay for their mistakes, we should let say AT&T shut down all phones for a day and expect the Feds to come in and fix it! No way...
That's all!
Sorry about the bitterness in politics, but it really gets me bothered.. LOL in other news, trip to London approaching rapidly!
Hi Valerie!
